DuPont™ Kevlar® is widely used in a diverse array of applications and industries, such as reinforced rubber products, composites, ropes and cables, mass transportation, oil and gas, engineered short
fibers, and protective apparel. While known in much of the world for its unique combination of attributes, new users in China are now realizing what is meant by the "Power of Performance".
For example, in the Chinese construction industry, Fiber Reinforced Polymer (FRP) is a new composite system being used in the rapid reinforcement, protection and retrofit of concrete and other structures. Market demand for FRP has grown with the awareness that Kevlar® is a high performance material well-known for its high strength, versatility, damage tolerance, durability and non-conductivity.
Application and strengthening techniques by Kevlar® have also provided solutions for construction constraints such as space and delivering on time. Concrete columns of bridges, tunnels, and subways are areas where Kevlar® can be used for the main reinforcement work now being done in China. The benefit of easy handling and quick installation when working with Kevlar® also helps provide workers with safety and protection in this industry.
Sporting goods also utilize Kevlar® for improved performance. For the younger generation in China who is always looking for challenges and new devices to enhance their lifestyles, attractive sports equipment loaded with special features and durability will be top considerations when making a selection. Downhill skis, for example, use layers of woven Kevlar® to help dampen vibrations and reduce weight. And because of their resistance to impact, composites made of Kevlar® are durable, making them ideal for this application. And with more and more lifestyle products being made to cater to emerging and changing consumer tastes in China, the new design of a skateboard reinforced with Kevlar® brand fabric is also creating excitement in the marketplace.
