DuPont is actively developing new high performance fiber technologies that could provide step-change improvements in performance over currently available fibers. Applications for these new fibers are diverse, but will include many of the same end-uses served by DuPont’s Kevlar® and Nomex®, including advanced body armor, next generation firefighter protection, and a host of other applications where DuPont has delivered superior performance for years. We are leveraging the full scientific capabilities of the DuPont Company in an effort to deliver superior product performance where our customers need it most.
M5®
One of the new fiber technologies under development is M5®. It is a new high performance fiber technology that DuPont is currently developing with its majority owned subsidiary, Magellan Systems International. M5® has potential as an ultra-high strength, ultra-high thermal and flame resistant alternative to products currently available in the advanced fibers market. This new fiber technology has the potential to represent a dramatic improvement over materials currently employed in critical-use applications, such as soft and hard ballistics protection, fire protection, non-structural composites, and a host of other applications where premium performance is valued.
