DuPont Hosts Life Protection Seminar for South African Police Officers

DuPont’s ongoing commitment to helping protect people and its strong collaboration with the South African Police Services (SAPS) resulted in a life protection seminar held recently for 125 police officers, including the Deputy National Police Commissioner.

The purpose of the seminar was to sensitize SAPS police officers to the benefits of wearing a bullet resistant vest.

Unfortunately, the South African crime rate continues to be high.  Armed robberies and hijacking are on the increase and SAPS officers face major ballistic threats from criminals, including the ongoing use of powerful machine guns like the AK47.  Recognizing the ongoing need for member officers to be well protected against these growing threats, SAPS has purchased more than 51,000 body armors made with Kevlar® brand fiber over the past two years.

“SAPS is grateful for DuPont assisting the body armor manufacturers in also helping them develop a comfortable, light-weight vest for female police officers,” said Deputy Commissioner Hlela.
