Sustainability Progress Report: Fuel-Efficient Vehicles

This is one in a series of articles on the DuPont 2008 Sustainability Progress Report that will appear in DuPont News.

The 2008 Sustainability Progress Report highlights the DuPont 2015 sustainability goals, the company’s progress against them, as well as examples of progress.

One of the goals is to introduce fleet vehicles that represent the leading technologies for fuel efficiency and fossil fuel alternatives. By 2015, we will ensure that 100 percent of our off-site fleet of cars and light trucks meet these criteria. We will continue to ensure these vehicles are safe as well as fuel efficient, and we will track and report on our fuel efficiency improvements.

So far, 22 percent of current U.S. vehicles are using leading technologies.

Vehicles currently considered to be leading technologies for fuel efficiency are:

  • Flexible Fuel Vehicle;
  • Clean Diesel;
  • Hybrid; and,
  • E85.

In Germany, premium class vehicles are no longer included in company car options. The fleet of 1,000 plus diesel vehicles, all equipped with particulate filters, are increasingly being supplemented by natural gas vehicles.
