The DuPont Chemical Solutions Enterprise (DCSE) at the Pontchartrain Works site in LaPlace, La., recently earned membership in the U.S. Department of Labor's Occupational Safety and Health Administration's (OSHA) "Star"
Voluntary Protection Program (VPP).
An OSHA team conducted a thorough on-site review of safety and health programs, interviews with employees, and a complete tour of the site. In qualifying for "Star" status, DuPont verified that it had implemented programs and procedures beyond the requirements of OSHA standards, with extensive involvement by site employees.
"This honor belongs to all 150 DCSE employees at our site, as well as our resident contractor team," said Guy Tenini, site manager. "Developing a world-class safety program requires commitment, participation and hard work. I'm very proud of our team. I know that this partnership will help us continue to operate with zero injuries."
OSHA's VPP offers employers an opportunity to move beyond traditional safety programs by recognizing participants who successfully incorporate comprehensive safety and health programs into their total management systems. VPP companies achieve average injury rates that are 50 percent lower than other companies in their industry.
