DuPont Safety Resources has signed a contract with Gold Fields -- one of the world's largest un-hedged producers of gold -- to conduct an independent, objective and comprehensive third-party evaluation of the safety management and culture of the health and safety practices at numerous mine sites.

The evaluation will assess how entrenched the health and safety culture is at Gold Fields and then recommend a path forward.  Earlier this year, Gold Fields announced that it appointed DuPont as the auditors to conduct its group-wide safety audit.

"Gold Fields would not mine if it could not do so safely," said Gold Fields CEO Nick Holland.  "Safety is absolutely imperative. That's what has to come first."
