Monaco, October 28, 2008. DuPont Cosmetics Solutions presents a new and innovative moulding technology based on the over-moulding of polymer inserts with DuPont™ Surlyn®. It broadens the design freedom of thick-walled cosmetic and fragrance containers by enabling the production of contrasting geometries for the internal and external walls, decoration techniques such as the encasing of label and inserts, the simple colouring of the polymer insert using masterbatch, or the application of frosted and glossy effects on the exterior surface directly from the tool.

Monaco, October 28, 2008. Men who use “Boss Pure” apply themselves with a woody aquatic fragrance inspired by the crash and thunder of falling water. The bottle represents a modern twist on the urban water wall. It has a rugged square shape with flat surfaces and pronounced edges, uniting the transparency of glass with the strength of metal. The glass bottle is crowned with a stopper made from DuPont™ Surlyn® PC2000 resin.

Merz Consumer Care’s wonderfully scented tetesept®¹ shower cream oils include fragrances such as ‘White Peach and Milk’ or ‘Lotus Blossom and Orchid’ – a freshness reflected by the pearl-white, glossy appearance of their bottles. The thin outer layer of the coextrusion blow-moulded PP bottle contains DuPont™ Entira™ AS MK 400 anti-static additive, used to preserve the bottle’s inviting appearance on the store shelf and at the consumer’s home.

Monaco, October 28, 2008. DuPont™ Surlyn® has been adopted for the primary packaging of Bulgari’s recent exclusive skincare line ‘Serum Précieux’. Bulgari chose the clear material for the bottle’s outer-casing as a symbol of purity. Surlyn® allows light to transmit to the content, yet is unbreakable and, despite the sharp edges of the bottle’s design, is unsusceptible to chipping.

WILMINGTON, Del., Sept. 18, 2008 – Hurricane Ike caused storm surge damage at DuPont’s Sabine facility in Orange, Texas.  As a result, the company declared “force majeure” for its ethylene copolymers business.  Based on the company’s preliminary assessment of damages, it is not clear when restart will occur at Sabine.  DuPont is working closely with its customers to lessen the impact on their business.

DuPont has announced that, due to the critical importance of sustainability in the packaging industry, it will continue to place special emphasis on innovations that provide more sustainable packaging solutions in the company’s long-running, independently judged DuPont Awards for Packaging Innovation.

A panel of independent jurors selected this year’s winners from nearly 80 entries from the Americas, Europe and Asia. Seven winners and three notable achievements were honored for innovative products and processes that demonstrated breakthroughs in sustainable packaging.

Responsible sourcing, effective recovery and energy optimization were key criteria in the selection of seven successfully commercialized products and processes as winners of the 20th DuPont Awards for Packaging Innovation. The announcement took place at DuPont headquarters in Wilmington, Delaware.
