Tedlar® PVF Films
For over 25 years, DuPont™ Tedlar® PVF film has been viewed as the industry leader for providing durable, weather-resistant back sheets for photovoltaic modules.
All Tedlar® films are made from polyvinyl fluoride so they share outstanding toughness, durability and 25+ year weatherability attributes.
DuPont™ Tedlar® offers two product types: PV2000 Series and PV2100 Series films. Both types are commercially available and are currently being used throughout the market and across regions. Each product delivers the high performance properties and standards that Tedlar® is known for within the industry.
Tedlar® PV2100 Series is designed to have improved dimension stability and higher reflectance than Tedlar® PV2000 Series films.
The industry prefers Tedlar® as the backing sheet due to its unique properties that offer long term, superior protection against the elements:
- UV resistance
- Moisture barrier
- Mechanical properties
- Strength and durability
- Resistance to weathering
- Electrical insulation
- UL recognized
Backsheet Laminate Composite
Increased lifetime of PV modules is of upmost interest to the industry to reduce the cost of solar electricity. Besides the solar cell string itself, the encapsulating system is the component with the highest responsibility for the lifetime of a PV module. The back sheet is normally made as a laminated film composite, the most common being a trilayer structure of Tedlar®/Polyester/Tedlar®, also called TPT™. This structure allows the fluoropolymer to protect both sides of the polyester from photo-degradation. The Tedlar® film is tough, photostable, chemically resistant and unaffected by long term moisture exposure. It is also one of the few fluoropolymers that can be readily pigmented.
